Martin’s story on Dublin by Louis MacNeice

I remember reading the poem Dublin in secondary school, and then forgetting about it even though I went back to reading MacNeice every now and again.  Then a few years ago a friend asked me if there was any poem about Dublin that I would recommend, and I read MacNeice poem Dublin again. This time it struck me as unforgettable, a remarkable piece of work capturing the spirit of the city in a way that poems both sympathetic and coolly objective at the same time.
